4-DAY ONLINE SUMMER SCHOOL
Dates: 6/8/24 - 9/8/24, Tuesday to Friday
Times: 10-4pm daily
Fee: £200/150(concs)
Note: The morning sessions will offer a range of guided input which you can then explore at your own pace in the afternoons, with 1-1 support from me.
Each day offers time away from your screen, as well as opportunities for you to refresh and pace yourself with breaks and meditation/mindfulness practice.
What is the course about
Explore ways of accessing and deepening your relationship to your imagination and discover imagery that has meaning for you. During the course, there will be opportunities to extend your knowledge and experience of drawing and painting through guided exercises to help you express yourself with feeling - through colour, layering of materials and composition.
We will look at a range of artists work for inspiration, and there’ll be mindfulness teaching to support you to connect with your materials, subject matter, feeling and imagination, when engaging in your creative work.
We will explore both figuration (‘imagery’) and abstract qualities (‘colour, shape, rhythm and space’), as gateways into the imagination.
Course structure
Day one: Introduction to our theme – the Imagination, and an exploration of ways to access it through mark-making, music and imagery. Beginning to identify images, themes and materials that interest you.
Day two: Continue to identify and explore subject matter that interests and inspires you, through a series of drawings/paintings focussing on image, colour and composition.
Day three Develop your imaginative work by engaging a range of drawing and painting methods inspired by a variety of artists.
Day four: Take themes of most significance to you, and discover ways to express yourself more fully and confidently through your chosen drawing and painting methods and materials, with an awareness of colour and composition
There will be opportunities for sharing your work via an online platform and in small groups.
Note: Recordings of each session will be made available, should you miss any part of the course
Materials to bring: I will demonstrate with graphite, water-soluble graphite, compressed charcoal sticks, woodies (similar to coloured pencils), soft chalk coloured pastels and acrylic paint. Feel free to bring and work with whatever drawing and or painting materials you enjoy working with. I will be able to offer guidance on most media.
