Automatic drawing has a rich history from the early 1900’s to the present day, with many innovative modern and contemporary art movements arising from it. Broadly speaking, automatism is a term borrowed from physiology, where it describes bodily movements that are not consciously controlled like breathing or sleepwalking. We will explore drawing like this.

During the session, as inspiration for our own drawings, we’ll look at a range of artists work who have used this drawing approach. We’ll also explore some key mindfulness themes, including the role of spontaneity and presence of mind, to support a greater sense of connection, ease and creative flow in drawing.

  • Discover a range of artists drawings as inspiration for your own drawings

  • Identify how automatic drawing can support you to access creativity and the imagination

  • Discover or re-discover images of significance to you through this playful and inspired drawing approach

  • Explore some key mindfulness approaches to stimulate a greater connection and sense of freedom/play in drawing

Suitable for all levels of drawing and mindfulness experience.
